About Us

Access. Organization. Storage.

These are the words that Jay Enns usually has on a daily mental loop. The owner of Guelph-based Systematic Spaces keeps them in mind as he envisions creating the ideal storage solution for each of his clients.

Enns believes that the perfect custom storage space can do much more than keep a particular area in a house tidy.

“There is a psychological side to it,” says Jay. “I know for my self that if my house or my shop gets dirty and cluttered, it can reflect where my psyche is at. If you live in a place that’s clean and organized, there is a psychological relief.

“There’s also something to be said for having things in your home that are really nice. If you live in an environment that is both organized and beautiful, it’s calming.

“It can change your mood. And it allows you to be at your best.”

Origin of Systematic Spaces

Jay has had an appreciation for this marriage of beauty and practicality since he was a kid growing up in Guelph. His father Al was a woodworker, so Jay regularly saw what a pair of hands could create.

He gained a wide variety of experience attending Sioux College and Conestoga College, before eventually working in the field of mechanical design at various engineering firms.

In 2014, Jay started Systematic Spaces and devoted all his time and effort to creating high-end Organizing Systems for homeowners.  Jay committed to creating the perfect storage solutions that would bring the calm to his clients’ lives. In his shop down off Victoria St, Jay initially concentrated on building beautiful drawers. But he has expanded his repertoire to include closets, built-ins, and cabinets for any room in a house.

Each job is tailored to maximize space and functionality. And Jay’s emphasis on only using the highest quality materials, which are made in Canada, bring an elegance to his projects.

Transparency and collaboration

When Jay initially hears from a client who needs a storage solution, the first step is to set up a consultation call. He believes it’s crucial to have a good fit with the homeowner in terms of knowing exactly what they are looking for and what Systematic Spaces can provide.

Communication, he says, is key.

“I answer any question and discuss prices, because they’ll be curious but not necessarily have a clear idea of it,” Jay says. “I’ll give them a heads up so that the final price isn’t out of left field.

“Then we talk about the solution, whether it’s a corner, cabinet, or pantry. I visit the home, and we develop a solution together. I’ll give an estimate and if they agree, the next step is to create approval drawings in AutoCAD software.

“Transparency and collaboration are incredibly important.”

From chaos to calm

Jay then does what he does best and builds the pieces, before the eventual installation, which can usually be done in a single day, depending on the size of the job.

He prides himself on the positive reviews Systematic Spaces has received and the fact that many of his clients over the last four years have relied on him to do subsequent jobs after the initial project.

Jay gets tremendous satisfaction from the entire process. From the hard work and sweat put into creating a piece in his shop to the happiness on his clients’ faces after an installation is complete, helping restore order to people’s homes brings him joy.

“It’s huge,” says Jay. “You can see the before and after.

“It goes from chaos and frustration to peace.”
